Wizards In Support of the Environment

Wizards In Support of the Environment

In early October, a coven of Wizards descended on the Chicago River.

The theme chosen by our kids developed into a full-fledged environmental theater event. The members of W.I.S.E. (Wizards In Support of the Environment) fielded three mystic vessels on the waters to explore the city’s waterway and spread the word of sustainable urbanism (via magical treats dispersed to the other paddlers).

The Chicago River is slowly getting cleaned up, in part because of events like this Flatwater Classic. The city is legally required to meet certain targets for water purity because the river is classified as a public use zone due to leisure and recreational activities like canoeing & kayaking (these environmental standards would be much less stringent if the river was classified as a commercial waterway).

So grab a canoe or kayak (rentals are easy) and get out on that river; there is amazing greenery, wildlife and scenery all in our midst.
